Learn to climb and belay – safely and independently

Would you like to go climbing on your own? In the elective Climbing Certificate you learn what it takes to climb and belay safely, and you finish the course with a certificate showing what you can do.

The subject is for complete beginners as well as those who have climbed before. We start with the basics and build up gradually, so everyone can progress at their own pace.

What will you learn?

Teaching is practical and takes place on the climbing wall. Safety is at the centre throughout – you learn not just the technique, but also to take responsibility for yourself and your partner.

Among other things, you will work with:

• Equipment: harness, rope, carabiners and belay devices
• Knots and partner checks before every climb
• Belaying and lowering your partner
• Climbing technique, balance and footwork
• Communication and safety rules on the wall

Community on the wall

Climbing is about trust. When you hold the rope, your partner's safety is in your hands – and the other way round. The group quickly becomes a strong community where you cheer each other on and push your limits together.
